The New 400kV Substation
What are SSEN proposing?
SSEN have selected an enormous 220 acre site, less than 500m from the existing 2 substations. The cumulative impact on the local residents and the environment is enormous. This substation is required to facilitate the new 400kV line from Kintore.
Why should you be concerned?
This site is huge with significant “room for future expansion” which they reserve the right to do.
It will bring with it years of heavy construction, damage to roads, noise and disruption. All of which the local residents have endured with the construction of the second sub station.
The visual impact on Tealing will be enormous and irreversible.
The site selection was opaque and focussed on sites very close to the existing substations. See squares 1-7 on the right.
Why is it the local residents of Balnuith and Tealing should shoulder all of the 2030 net zero infrastructure?
The Fiddes Selected Site
This map shows the original Fiddes site selection (here)
Following complaints from local residents a new site was selected outside this 5Km radius in Fetteresso Forest.
The Emmock 400kV site is only 500m from the existing two substations. This places a disproportionate burden on those who live in the area.
When will the developments end?
There is a real risk that in 10 years time, Tealing will not be the beautiful village that it is today. It will be covered in concrete, electrical infrastructure, battery storage and solar, unless we act now. (See here for battery farm proposals)
What do we want?
We demand that the site selection discussion is reopened. We demand more transparency as to why this site was selected. We demand to see detailed site assessments that have taken place . We demand that sites further away are considered seriously. We understand that progress towards net zero requires infrastructure but why should Tealing have 3 sub stations that surround the local residents? Who is going to stand up for our way of life?
We want to see the detailed discussions and site proposals not just the final outcome.
